For everyone that does a lot of websurfing, I highly reccomend that you
download this tool. It will clean off any ad/spyware on your computer and
help defend you against reinfection of additional ad/spyware.

You can download it at:
http://www.astalavista.com/?section=dir&act=dnd&id=2548

or the main site of:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/

Enjoy and safe surfing.

I'd like to mention Ad-Aware, I truly feel it to be the best program for the job.
Not because it's superior to Spy-bot (though I've tried both and I do think
it's slightly better)but because of the awesome customer service.
This is a free of charge program (for personal use), no cost what so ever.
But, if you have a spyware/adware problem that won't go away, all you
have to do is go to their forum and make a post in the right section stating
your problem and attaching the scan log and a moderator will get right on
it and tell you what needs to be done.

If it's proving tricky you just download a special program called "Hijack
this" and send the log from it to the forum. You'll get detailed instructions
on how to fix the problem and even stuff that's just indirectly related to the spy-/adware problem.

I just think it's fantastic to be able to get professional help, for free!
(almost like FC Tech Channel )
And anyway, most people recommend running both of these apps as they
do things slightly differently. I just keep to ad-aware though.

Download Ad-Aware at http://lavasoftusa.com/

I used an earlier verson of Ad-Aware in the past and didn't like it. But the
newer versions are probably better. The thing I like about Spybot is that
it has a registry monitor and will prompt you if some unknown program
attempts to make changes to the registry.

Take your pick, either one will get the job done.

Most security guys will tell you to use two spyware catchers, obvously don't have them doing a system scan at the same time though hey . The free MS Beta is also highly recomended as well.

I concur, I have a bit more experience now than when I first made the post.
Although, Spybot has begun to annoy me a bit now though... :-)

Anyway, I've been trying to find a good rootkit detector to run on my
systems just because I'm paranoid. Though, if I did have a rootkit on one of
my boxes, I'd long since be toast and had all my bank accounts drained.
