From an article on RPS today regarding games adding a Story mode to make combat a breeze so you can just experience the narrative:

Quote:
And, y’know, fair’s fair! If you don’t like the talkie bits, why not have the option to cut them down to the bare minimum too? “Shepard, I was wondering how you felt about blue ladies-” “NO TIME FOR LOVE! SHEPARD SMASH! SAVE GALAXY!”

I will admit to laugh a little too much at that, because all I can picture is <insert name here> from FC as Shepard saying that

It's an interesting argument though. Is it wrong to add something even easier than Easy to a game for people who are just in it for the story? Personally I think it's a good thing, and the older I get the more drawn I am to it. Especially with games where I think the combat mechanics are either mediocre or downright sucky (I'm looking at you Witcher).

Article for anyone interested.

Loved Mass Effect, but I'm almost certain you were talking about Tenz!

Well I really enjoyed the Mass Effect story right up until they fucked it all up in the final scene

Third and final episode in an epic series and Bioware decide to move the lead scipt writer to a different game, change the whole of the way the main plot has been set up thus leaving massive plot holes, and then, unlike every other quest in the game, don't peer-review the final scene script. Awesome fucking work.

I think when VR finaly goes mainstream you'll see a lot more story driven games. There is a Sherlock Holmes board game that doesn't actually have a board. You get a telephone directory, map of London and a clue book and you have to solve the crime from that. Imagine if you could now go to the crime scene in VR, look around and gather clues like that? Or interview the witnesses.

Going to be a lot better ways of telling stories on a computer in the near furure.
