Hey,

I've decided I want a new monitor... but the options are nuts!

Just wondering what you guys are using?

Ideally I want one thats over 27"

High res, low response etc.

But don't want to spend stupid amounts.

Any ideas?

For gaming: low response time (mine's 2ms).

Things to bear in mind (if you don't already know them):

- Best quality screens are made with IPS panels. Second is WVA, third is TN.
- Standard 1920x1080 resolution can look a bit shit when you're talking 27+ inches so you might want to look for 2560x1440 or better.
- Just cause your new monitor can handle near 4k resolution doesn't mean your graphics card can...
- Don't forget to check for DisplayPort connections if you have a shitty Macbook you want to link to it too.
- Response time of 5ms is fine, under that is splitting hairs and pretty much impossible for the human eye to distinguish.

Gotta admit, even with the relatively high (5ms grey-to-grey) response time I have my eye on this bad boy for a future upgrade: http://www.ebuyer.com/616189-lg-34um65-34-led-ips-dvi-hdmi-monitor-34um65-p

EDIT: Forgot to add with regards to response time, unless you know how it was measured the figure is somewhat meaningless. A lot of manufacturers will quote grey-to-grey time (which is usually around 3-6ms) whereas others will quote black-white-black times (also known as off/on/off) which tend to be around 13-15ms. Something that's listed as 5ms might well have a 15ms off/on/off time in actuality.

Also, TN panels have worse image quality but faster response times than IPS, where the reverse is true.

Agree with Neonin.

27inch is the way to go but you really will appreciate having a higher than HD resolution on it.

What is your current graphics card? Even if you have not got a really good one it is better to know your screen can handle a higher rez than knowing that it never will be able to.

Other than that...I would recommend the Asus brand. That or Sony. I have issues with LG.

If you don't want to spend loads and want 1ms, then a TN monitor is your obvious choice Dodgeit, maybe also 24" instead of 27" if cost is an issue.

These are pretty solid monitors for fps gaming (230)

Maybe a 27" like this (180)

So much choice!

Hello Dodge, i was looking for a monitor a while back and DD recommended this one, i ended up buying it and you can also see my review of it in the listing under Daff

http://www.scan.co.uk/products/27-dell-u2713hm-led-ips-monitor-dp-hdmi-dvi-vga-2560x1440-10001-350cd-m2-8ms-black-with-4-port-usb-3

If your monitor doesn't cost around half what the rest of your PC did, you're not doing it right

Cheers guys!

Yeah I want a res above 1920x1080.

Yes I'm on a bit of a budget... but fuck it. Can't take it with you right?

I currently have a 2GB 670 GTX FTW. Looking at SLI but the cost of a matching one is still around 300 for a 2 year old card...

I'll take a look through the suggestions when I get a few minutes.
Theres just so many freaking options

Got to love Asus.
