Not even going to bother discussing this.

Lol Simon, that tickled me for some reason. Probably because that's exactly what I felt having watched the intro vid

I'll try it at some point but not in a rush.

Just pick an mmo you already own and play that, same thing

Was gonna mention that this is out soon...

Saw the trailer and some gameplay. Love the art style etc...then I read your comments and, oh well, shame it sounds such std fare

I see that NCSoft are publishing this...wonder how their finances are these days after the last few years of decline?

Following on from TESO I think I'll bypass this one too

Well, I've tried it for 2 beta weekends. I would say it's not bad by any means at all, it's just... More of the same old. And I've kind of outgrown that.

Played a chunk of it now and don't actually know if I like it or not

Let's talk cakes; you hire a top chef, give him top notch ingredients and ask him bake you a cake. He comes up with a sponge cake. It's a nice sponge cake, tastes great and all but.. you wanted a giant black forest gateau with sparklers on it, served up by a playboy bunny in a bikini and what you got a was a nice but dull sponge cake delivered by the tea lady instead.

To mangle this metaphor even more, this game has plenty of fine ingredients but there's something missing. The exploration is great, there's reasons to actually go out into the wilds and find crap. There's a LOT of stuff to do, maybe a bit too much. I'm hoping it picks up later.

I also wonder what the fuck the devs were thinking with the first zone for the humans. Your ship crashes and within a minute of leaving the newbie zone you are fighting yetis in a snow covered cartoon landscape exactly like WoW's Ironforge starter zone!

Neo and I played a bit at the weekend, I'd like to know what he thought. I saw no point in grouping sadly. We played a bit of SWTOR recently and that game is a lot of fun grouped as you all pick the stupid dialogue options and laugh at the bizarre conversations you have.

There's also the heroic areas and flashpoints and stuff, which to be fair to Wildstar do exist in this game but I haven't got to them yet. Our grouping felt grindy and restrictive, sorry Neo, nothing to do with you mate

I actually prefer soloing in this game as I can just roam about take my time, read the quest text (some of it is hilarious), get stuff done beyond kill 20 bugglesnuggers.

There's a lot of good stuff in there though. The Explorer profession is really cool, and Neo's Settler guy was building some pretty whizzy shit to help us along. There's subtle stuff like fighting your way into a cave full of hostiles and killing the boss but now you don't have to fight your way out again as the turned non-hostile... erm, until we burned down their village anyway

Unfortunately so much of the early levels is just same old crap though and it's missing a driving force like SWTORs class story lines. There's clearly a wonderfully detailed game world here, it's just there isn't much motivation to go out into it. I'll keep playing for a while, well the free 30 days anyway, and report back if it improves any.

I can sum up my thoughts on this game in one sentence: I haven't logged in to play it solo once.

More thoughts: Grouping almost felt tacked on, some quest objectives were shared but others weren't. Furries. Lip sync issues during the cutscenes (personal bugbear, sorry). Very cartoony. Furries. Far too colourful for my liking. Stupid skill stuff like the leap attack sending you a specific distance whichever way you're facing so you have to measure out your distance to the mob before using it, completely pointless when fighting trash mobs. Furries. Same tired old two-faction system. Did I mention the furries?

Also furries.

Tenz clicks furry race, Tenz thinks "she's cute, wonder what the males look like", Tenz realises that IS the male
