Have done fuck all to improve things.

Current fotm is snipers and pop tarts. Leave cover and die. ECM remains unchanged, Lights are easier to hit, BAP does something to help streaks but I lost all will to keep reading at that point.

Clan Wars due date is approaching and it probably won't be pretty

Saddening but hardly shocking... We should continue to keep an eye out, but if this continues we might as well just give up the MW chapter.

Update time, and it is looking grim:

Poptarting fixed by adding a screen shake. You can still do it but you can't aim for shit on the way up meaning much less time to... get your load off, as it were.

Brawling is hard, state-rewind means you hit what you aim at (finally) but this means long range weapons are king with sneaky sniping and boating PPC/Gauss the current meta. It's all about a high Alpha right now and it sucks as there is little role for a medium anymore.

BAP now counters ECM somewhat.

Still no new game modes. One new map! Didn't get to play it

They are still adding new mechs, Blackjack is in but I couldn't be arsed to buy one. At this point I reckon they are only adding so many to sell the premium versions to the 'gotta catch em all' addicts.

They are supposed to be going live in 'summer 2013' that gives them 3 months tops to get implemented and tested; 3rd person (ugh), the new UI, a vague semblance of mech and weapon balance, 12v12 (remember that?), knockdowns and finally Clan Warfare.

Not a fucking chance They have had nine months of open beta and till not managed to get it anything like balanced for the inner sphere mechs. Despite the bug fixes the game is less fun to play now that it was when Open Beta started. The consumables are just... ugh. Not as bad a WoTs gold ammo clear P2W but it's close.

There is not a snowball's that they will get Clan mechs in there and balanced in three months

Tis a shame when I think back to when we first took a punt on this and the fun we had in closed/early open beta. They really need to pull their fingers out and smell the coffee

Okee, two months later and a few short weeks until 'summer 2013' is over so how do we think they are doing?

Well I'll tell you Mechwarrior fans, there is a monumental shit storm over on the forums following yesterday's patch... but more of that in a bit

- 12v12 is now in
- More mechs are in
- More camo-for-cash options are in
- There are steep heat penalties for boating weapons. This has somewhat affected the multi-PPC alpha sniping builds but lots of people are unhappy with the implementation and apparently sniping it still the main meta (didn't actually play, couldn't be arsed, I'll wait for UI 2.0).

Still no UI 2.0 but that is apparently coming before launch... um.. in summer 2013. Apparently. It's a major upgrade and it isn't even up on the test server yet so make of that what you may but it don't look good.

Still no Clan Wars/Community Warfare and that will not be coming before launch.

And finally, 3rd person view is now in. And many, many people are getting their knickers in a right twist over it, mainly because of this:

"Players will never be forced to use or play against other players using 3rd person"

That was a direct promise from the game's creative director in March this year. So patch day comes, no 3rd person queue. You'll have to use it to stay competitive.

The devs point of view is that they see no significant advantage to using 3rd person so they pretty much abandoned the separate queue. My theory is that the game probably has so few players at this point that splitting the queue would be suicidal.

Topic started yesterday, 69 pages of fury in one day; read the rage here: https://mwomercs.com/forums/topic/132369-3rd-person-view-feedback/

Oh well. Things may turn out right yet. Probably not though

Oh, halfway down this page are some screenies showing the complete lack of any advantage from it

https://mwomercs.com/forums/topic/132369-3rd-person-view-feedback/page__st__1200

Edit: Dev response here. Seems fair enough: http://mwomercs.com/forums/topic/132637-3rd-person-an-update-and-apology/

This game is taking ages to be finished!!

I've been popping back in after my sudden disappearance a few months ago and am surprised they're still so far away from what would be a complete game..

I am alive and well and apologise deeply for my disappearance, I started working down London and the commute was killing me but I am now climatised and still majorly disappointed with the progress made. New mechs are nice, but make the fucking game first!

Hey Soko, glad to see you're still alive! We've pretty much stopped playing MWO though... The slow progress, the unbalanced weapons and the addition of coolant and so on got to be a little much. Might have a look at it again though at some point.

Soko! Nice to see you matey

You haven't missed much though

I'll probably get back into it when it properly launches.

September Creative Developer Update:

https://mwomercs.com/forums/topic/133423-september-creative-developer-update/

Notable highlights:

We released some really big features in 12v12 and 3PV: Both have been a great success

After releasing 3PV we saw an immediate improvement in our target demographic, with a good bump in new player retention!

Now that second one really pisses me off. Target demographic is now apparently brain dead fucktards who can't figure out how to drive something with independent legs and torso. Fuck the founders, fuck the Mechwarrior fans, thanks for the money to get us started now fuck off and make way for the CoD crowd UT

September 3rd Patch Notes:

https://mwomercs.com/forums/topic/134294-patch-day-september-3rd-live/

Orion is in, PPCs now do no damage under 90m, Gauss has a .75 sec charge up then you have 1.25 secs to fire it or it'll need to charge again. And that's about it. I want an Orion but I'm grumpy so fuck em

F2P works on economies of scale, they need a large demographic to be profitable, as such niche, non standard and generally risk game play isn't a priority.

Shit, its the same with PS2, and its only going to get worse with next gen consoles. They have a vibrant and demographic rich online market for these existing games to "tap" into so expect more common denominator targeting.

Oh and shitload of "help your friends" bullshit through social media for no other means than advertising.

Yeah but the problem is the number of 'broad appeal' games is growing but the player base isn't.

When it was just WoT they made a killing, now you add in War Thunder, Mechwarrior, Marvel Heroes, PS2, Neverwinter, Path of Exile and more to come, there's still the same number of F2P interested gamers out there.

Specialising and retaining a core of fans will probably be better in the long run rather than relying on the churn

Hey I might be wrong. Dumbing it down and taking forever to make any meaningful changes just might be the right way to run a successful F2P MMO
