New Build - PS2 focus |
|
I'm planning on some upgrades for my comp pretty soon since I'm getting pissed with the frames my current system is running.
My current comp is:
Q6600
GTX 660
8gb 800MHZ RAM
Booting off a 64gb SSD
I've been on the forums looking for a good idea of what can run planetside 2 reasonably well. I do know that most people are having problems with this one because of piss poor optimisation but I also gather that some people can play at a reasonable fps.
Can I pick at your collective brains with regards to a new rig?
Ideally I would like you to give me details of what your running, the settings you run and any large scale .ini tweaks.
At the moment I get;
Warpgate 50fps
Small scale fight 25fps
Large fight 15fps
I really want to aim for 30 min in all situations.
Cheers in advance for any advice you give.

Any thoughts on the FX 6300?
Does anybody run AMD with any success?

Intel chips have been running Planetside better than AMD chips, unfortunately.

Off the top of my head, with little to no research. Got this.
http://www.ebuyer.com/262580-corsair-8gb-ddr3-1600mhz-vengeance-memory-cmz8gx3m2a1600c9b 54.40
http://www.ebuyer.com/349029-intel-core-i5-3570k-3-4ghz-socket-1155-6mb-cache-retail-boxed-processor-bx80637i53570k 182.54

- 8 gig of 1600mhz DDR3 ought to be enough within your budget but the mobo I picked supports 2 more sticks if you want to get more in the future
- The chip, well, it's an i5 Ivybridge, Intel are pretty much winning when it comes to PS2. The K version can be overclocked if you want to do that also.
- The mobo, looked good on paper, guru3d seemed to like it as a budget board. Supports sli in case you fancy another card, also more RAM in case you want more of that too. Overclocking was reported to be 'okay' but guru3d got some good speeds out of it.
Haven't included a heatsink as the stock cooler tends to be good enough, if you really want one though the arctic cooling freezer 13 serves me well, the arctic cooling i30 is just fucking huge, as my flatmate found out on Friday, so pick that only if you have plenty of space in your case. Same goes for the pro 13 really but still, it's a beast :|
Comes to £337.19. Within budget I guess, no idea if it's any use to you though

Thanks for all the help so far. Is any body in our outfit running an I5?
Would be nice to see what fps they get despite the luck factor.
What systems do you guys run and how is planetside running on them?

i5 and a 6900 here. 16GB of RAM (It was on special) SSD
Despite the opinion... i get a solid over 80 fps in WG and a steady 40-60 in fights. Ive never really had a problem except for one patch in Beta.
If theres one thing ive read on the forums regarding issues that people have... its with AMD cpu's... and 660 Cards..

i5 processor you mean?
I'll have to look up my precise build but..
using a i5 2500, EVGA GTX 550 Ti ( overclocked by EVGA ), 16GB Kingston Hyper-X 1600MHz (clocked down to 1333MHz due
to the motherboard & cpu cap )
With most settings set to high, particle on medium and shadow on minimal with FOV set to 55 degrees.. get about 30 fps
usually, have to take a look to tell
you per situation but it's mainly the GTX 550 Ti holding it back.. ( hopefully the EVGA GTX 660 Ti SC ( also OC by EVGA ) I
got ordered will change that )
edit: added FoV

Ive no idea why... and that is by no means scientific. I'm sure theres just as many people, in fact probably considerably more, with Nvidea cards that have 0 issues at all.
