Changing the topic (all temporary like!) to FFXIV...you been on lately? I've been levelling my Rogue...

The lower level roulette dungeons are pretty sparse these days so grinding is a bit more boring than it used to be. Doing Levequests bores the fook out of me

Still, I guess things will pick up a bit for the new expansion...

After being hounded by a few mates to give it another chance on the console (you can see my opinion on the PC version by scrolling up), and seeing it generally doing well in the media and on metacritic and the like, I took the plunge and got this on the PS4. It is actually a lot better, more enjoyable and generally not as boring as the PC version. Feels so much more natural to play it with a controller, and it does feel like that was the initial intention with the way it plays. Fair play to em, they've managed to salvage summat from the original launch.

A few changes. The immensely shit starting zone (I didn't get too much further than this on the PC) has been reworked so you go into the mainland at the start and have the option of going and questing there. It isn't the actual content though, its the way it plays. On the PC there was literally no feedback to any of your actions in cobmat, so it was basically slashing thin air, or it felt like that. It was just really dull and flat. On the PS4 (and by now maybe the PC?) its a lot better. the combat feels a bit meatier and you have the vibration feedback witht he controller which really does add to it (console master race lol). It feels as if it was meant to be played on a console. The skills match up to the controller perfectly. In hindsight, I'd say the PC version is more like a piss poor port of this...even though it's vice versa.

So it's been a couple of years since this came out (2nd anniversary event this week actually) and I picked it up a few weeks ago when brune noted it was around 6 somewhere.

Already had my money's worth and I haven't got a character past 13 yet. It plays well, the graphics are excellent but still run very well maxxed on my getting-older machine (i5, HD7850) and the gameplay does feel a bit different to a normal MMO. It has flaws sure, the lack of an auction house means you have to join "trading guilds" to sell stuff to other players if you don't want to spam the chat, but you can join up to five different guilds on your account and you can make a fair amount of money running around the starting cities robbing them blind and fencing the stuff anyway

I was never a huge Elder Scrolls nut, didn't get into the history or the setting the way some people tend to, but if you do like that there's plenty of stuff for you to read and some of the quests deal with things that happened in history.

The general playerbase seems fairly un-dickish for an MMO, nowhere near the amount of flame wars in chat that abound on other titles.

Here's some screenie porn for those of you of that persuasion:

First city I came across, a High Elf (Altmer) one called Vulkel Guard:

Some mountain lava porn:

Closer view (different part of the mountain):

And the usual "character staring off into the distance" shot:

Useful tip: Any container on the floor that is not locked (locked stuff tends to be chests and safeboxes) is instanced, so you can freely loot it without worrying you're stealing other peoples stuff. Took a while before I found that out...

Yeah I bought and played it a few months back, entertained me for a few hours until my next flavour of the month addiction came along.

Going from Tier 1 iron armour (which was a bit of a mismatch in styles I'll admit) to Tier 2 steel armour:

Yes, I was reading an Eddings book when I created the character. Sue me.

The trick is to read one series then take a lenghty break so you don't realise how similar they all are

Haha, yeah, I know what you mean. I've only read 2 of his works, The Redemption of Althalus and The Belgariad and I had a serious case of deja vu, now I know why!

I find it less of a hassle to go from the Belgariad/Mallorean to the Elenium/Tamuli (where the armour look is based off the Pandion knights for mdk since he hasn't read them) as while there are similarities I find them different enough for it not to be too jarring. It helps that the Sparhawk books were my first foray into fantasy outside LotR when I was a kid, so they have a special significance for me
