I'm not dead, just had a few family issues and a nasty cold.

Anyway, been playing this since I read an Early Access review of it on RockPaperShotgun, and it's pretty good considering its early phase and the fact it's mostly one guy working on it. Everything I wanted No Man's Sky to be I think, although since I haven't actually played NMS yet I suppose it's unfair to judge.

Procedurally generated galaxy? Check. AI to fight against? Check. Ability to build own ships? Check. Ability to hire captains (apart from crew you need for the ships) to have an AI fleet of your own? Check. Dev that seems to be trying to balance realism and fun? Check. (You can hide your thrusters inside your designs to keep the look of them cool). Different ways to advance and make money? The one's I've tried:
- Mining.
- Salvaging (early game salvaging lasers are short range but basically shotguns to unshielded enemies... fun).
- Trading.
- Exploring and claiming large asteroids to sell for profit and rep.

The AI ships look completely weird because of the way they're generated but I'm usually too busy blowing them up to care. You can make your own stations which I haven't tested out yet, and once they're complete with a docking port the AI will start trading with them...

It's basically X3 with a much, much bigger galaxy, the ability to make your own ships, and multiplayer.

When it comes to building, it's with the usual blocks. The kicker here is there are no "grid" sizes you have to conform to, and all the blocks scale. Which let's you do stuff like... this (unfinished)

Escort Carrier HMS Endeavour

Everything on that ship was built by hand using blocks of various types (cube, corner, etc)... Goodbye life. Although I'm told that if you get good at making stuff in the game you're basically set up to do 3D modelling since it's extremely similar so... I'm a genius.
