Need a beefy card for Witcher 3. 970 has that ]3.5GB Vram issue which I'm sure will affect Witcher 3 performance, 980 does not but it's about 160 more expensive, but it's more future proof than a 970 and 8GB cards are hard to buy at a good price in UK. Grr. I have a bios modded 6970 2GB with all it's shaders unlocked, but playing MKX and some newer titles made me realise how old this card is becoming and I'm not wanting stutter performance in Witcher 3. Or should I wait it out for AMD to release their new 3xx cards and hope for a 980 price drop? You guys got any advice?

Don't play Witcher 3? That is my plan and thus I save a shed load (also my old i5 is below minimum spec!)

What res is your monitor? If you're still using 1080p resolutions and don't plan on upgrading your monitor for a time I'd just go with the 970. You'll note most of the tests that show a problem with accessing the 0.5GB are running resolutions at 1440 and up, so if you can't display anything above 1080 it's not likely to be an issue even with Witcher 3.

Solid advice that, thanks! Hope my Intel i5 4670K will cope!

I have a 1080p monitor, plan to get a 1440p monitor though, I hear it looks great for gaming. Maybe go with a 970 for now then upgrade to a AMD 3xx when the price drops in the distant future.

Cheers brune. I purchased the MSI 970 from ebuyer with The Witcher 3. Card came yesterday but not installed it yet, waiting for the gamecode first. Now ebuyer updated their site yesterday, 3 days after I made the purchase which now also includes Batman which I'm not interested in, see what they give me or the card is going back and will buy from scan.co.uk instead!

Damn, there's not enough praise for that 970, it really is a brilliant card for the price. With my MSI Radeon 6950, I had to play Evolve in low settings to make it play smoothly, the same for Killing Floor 2, had to put everything on low with all the effects turned off and no anti aliasing to make it almost smooth. Now I can turn everything on Ultra with anti aliasing and all the effects turned on and silky smooth gameplay for both Killing Floor 2 and Evolve. RUST now plays silky smooth maxed out, you need a beefy graphics card to play that one smoothly right now until they optimise their stuff. Granted, the 6950 came out in 2010, but it was a top performing card with great custom cooling, overlocked and all shaders unlocked so it was effectively a more expensive 6970, but I wasn't expecting such a huge gain in games. MK10 played like crap on the 6950, the patches helped performance a little bit, but it was hard to enjoy it, can't wait to see how it plays now once that 15GB patch downloads and installs! Now to see if The Witcher 3 will cripple it. :D

How much did you pay in the end? I'm shopping around this week as I would like to beef up my PC ready for Heavensward in June, and would be nice to play GTA5 a bit better.
