So...I have only four SATA slots on my mo'board and I have designs on buying two SSD's, one for LINUX and one for Windoze.

any good recommendations? Reasonable size for a bootable drive etc? I don't wish to partition them on the same hardware as I have done before as it saves on hassle when things go wrong.

I need at least one SATA for my DVD R/RW, well at least until install is sorted / Steam games backed up etc...

Any tips would be helpful for which drives to order, brands, reasonable prices etc. I'm guiessing third drive for storage, 2TB or something similar?

My weapon of choice for std HDD is usually Western Digital but I have had Seagate drives before...

Thanks in advance.

*edit* Any good SSD chassis adapters people can recommend?

I bought an OCZ Vertex 3 a couple of years ago, 120gb and its lovely. Came with a bracket too. I'm not really sure what advice to give SSDs really, other than buy one that..works? Dunno, but what I will say is be careful on the decibel noise for storage drives.

I have this one:

And its noisy as fuck. Hate it. Western Digital piece of garbage. Friend of mine just bought a Samsung 2TB drive and I can't hear his at all.

I've got a Samsung 840 EVO in mine and it uhm...works like an SSD :P

Has some good reviews too, goes up to 1TB if you're rich

http://www.techspot.com/review/709-samsung-840-evo-ssd/page9.html

I have it set up as a 120 GB boot drive backed up with 1TB WD Caviar, it's enough for me to load windas and wow which is all I intend to run from it.
All my other crap is partitioned on the 1TB

Thanks all

I'm thinking two booting SSD's

1.) Windoze 7
2.) Ubuntu - or something similar without the stigma!

3.) DVD R/RW
4.) 1 or 2 TB for storage.

120GB are pretty cheap from what I've seen so I 'll do 1 + 2 first

Sounds good to me, obviously your choice of size of the SSD is dependant on how you plan to use it. If you only intend to use it as a boot drive that 120gb is more than enough

Yes that is my aim, 120GB should be enough for Windoze right? I know I don't need that much for Linux but I'll probably just get two the same.

I use a 50 Gb SSD partition for Windows 7. It's large enough by a good margin, if you install programs to another partition. I use a 180 Gb SSD for C: and programs/games and it's plenty - not, however, if you're the type of person who really likes having MORE than ~5 new, large games installed at the same time.

So... im joining the SSD club.

Getting a 120gb EVO 840 for my boot, and a 250GB for main games.

Then using my current drive as a storage one...

Anyone got any advice or tips or what to watch out for when setting up ssd?

I keep reading about the trim etc.
