ER Large Laser, Large Pulse Laser, PPC/ERPPC all getting reduced heat generation.

More fun is the fact the PPC/ERPPC will now disrupt ECM, so every time you hit one of the bastards with them their ECM stops working for 5 seconds.

Time to start fiddling with those builds folks!

Excellent news, my double PPC-toting mechs will be getting some well-needed use.

They seem to be missing the point on ECM though. ECM isn't overpowered because of what is does to missile locks, that can be countered with TAG or NARC. You could argue that the two counters are a bit crap, but that is a problem with the counter, not with ECM.

The main issue with it is the AoE null-sig effect. There is absolutely no counter to that at all, other than another ECM within 180m. That is what makes it such a powerful tool for such a small cost.

These are the Battle tech game rules for null-sig:

The null signature system features heat baffles that mask the 'Mech's heat sinks and reduce its infrared signature. However, the baffles restrict the normal venting of heat, meaning the 'Mech generates an additional 10 points of heat while the system is active. The null signature system also incorporates a phased-array sensor system and a sheathed directional communication beacon. Therefore, a 'Mech with this system may not mount any special Targeting and Tracking Systems (including Targeting Computers, C3 equipment, and C3i equipment) or a Satellite Uplink system.

The null signature system does not weigh a significant amount, but does take up one critical slot in each of the BattleMech's hit locations except for the head, for a total of seven critical slots. A critical hit to any of these slots will disable the entire system.

No idea what the fuck the devs were thinking wen they made it AoE, no additional heat, unable to disable it, no more slots at all let alone the SEVEN it should take

Well they're making the sensor modules boost the targetable range of ECM-equipped mechs from 180 up to 250m depending on which one you have installed, and a PPC hit will disable it entirely. Sounds like a counter to me. Whether it'll be an effective counter is another thing, but as I imagine once this change goes live pretty much everyone who can will be tooling around with at least one PPC I think the ECM mechs are going to have a hard time for a while. What a shame
